New board member elected for NBG

Martyn Rees

Building supplies boss Martyn Rees has been elected as executive board member of National Buying Group, the top buying group for independent merchants.

Rees is the joint owner of Malvern-based County Building Supplies, a mixed merchant operating out of ten branches, after the latest one opened in Tetbury earlier this month. After being encouraged to join the board at a recent meeting with NBG’s Roofing and Insulation Category Management Team, Rees canvassed partners ahead of the vote.

Speaking of his success, Rees said: “I’ve been a partner of NBG since it was formed, so when it was suggested I put myself forward for the board I jumped at the chance to take on a new challenge. Ahead of the vote, I called up individual partners to find out what was important to them and how the board could help them achieve it. I’ve been working with some of the board members for years so I’m really looking forward to joining them and helping make decisions that will benefit NBG’s partners.”

NBG, formed in 2003, brings together independent UK merchants to save money by using group buying power. The group assists partners to develop lucrative business opportunities, overcome industry challenges and build lasting relationships with suppliers, as well as each other.

Nick Oates, Managing Director at NBG, said: “Giving our partners a voice and making sure they feel heard is what sets NBG apart, so it is right they decide who sits on the board. Martyn has been part of NBG since its inception, so we are delighted that he is taking up the reins and joining us. The board makes crucial decisions on behalf of NBG and it’s really important the partners are represented by people they trust.”

Rees’ appointment arrives ahead of NBG’s annual conference, which will mark the group’s 15thyear. Taking place in Liverpool from November 12-14, the conference will bring together partners and suppliers to discover new products, build relationships and celebrate achievements.
