Jewson will ‘ride out the storm’

Jewson managing director Peter Hindle has insisted that the builders merchant will get through the recession and avoid making redundancies.
Hindle, whose 40-plus years in the industry were honoured with an MBE in the New Years Honours List, will continue to expand the business.

“It is not fantastic times for the industry but Jewson is in a good position to ride it through,” he told the Blackpool Gazette.

“We supply materials to a number of smaller building firms so we get a lot of trade that way. Plus there are still a number of larger building programmes going ahead.

“We now have more stores open across the UK than we did at the start of 2008. There are now 530 Jewson stores in the UK but we are going to ride the storm this year.”
