Midlands-based independent merchant Emerys Timber and Builders Merchant has joined H&B buying group.
Part of the Joseph Parr Group, established in 1883, Emerys is based in the north west Midlands and last year turned over £14m from its two depots, one in Stoke on Trent and one in Telford. The company has traditionally had a specialism as a timber merchant but now operates a mixed merchant business including kitchen and bathrooms with a new showroom opening at the Telford branch late last year.
Emerys’ managing director, James Hipkins, believes that membership of H&B will bring distinct benefits to the business. “Clearly the buying deals and rebates are a big part of the reasons we joined H&B,” he says. “Even though we are confident that we were buying well as a stand-alone company, we believe that buying as a group, especially on bulk product, can only benefit our bottom line. We are confident that being part of a successful group like H&B will help us secure allocations and ensure our supply lines, especially at the moment with product shortages and the uncertainty around supply post-Brexit,” he says.
“Being inside the H&B family not only protects the business, it also offers synergies within our group with others that are H&B members. Emerys is also anticipating improved and closer relationships with H&B suppliers, working with them in partnership to build credibility, support and improved alliances.
H&B currently has over seventy-five H&B merchant members, with sales approaching £1bn a year and more than 215 branches, trading in partnership with around 280 suppliers.
