Building Supplies Online appoints new Head of Buying

Building Supplies Online, the leading online distributor of construction material and building products, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Wolfe as Head of Buying.

Wolfe joins from Wickes Building Supplies, where he was Head of Category for the building materials and garden division, responsible for its sales growth and profitability. Prior to Wickes, he worked for Travis Perkins managing a series of global sourcing projects, which delivered significant cost and supply chain efficiencies. Earlier in his career, Wolfe held a series of buying roles covering all areas of the building supplies sector.

He takes up a role specifically created to support Building Supplies Online’s growth plans, following its strategic partnership with Cairngorm Capital Partners1 last year.  Working with founders Craig and Ian Baldwin, Wolfe will expand the scale and range of the business, implementing measures that enhance the company’s proposition, customer satisfaction, turnover and profitability. As part of this, he

will strengthen Building Supplies Online’s product range, working collaboratively with suppliers to add new categories and extend existing ones, for the benefit of customers and suppliers alike. Plans are well advanced to launch an extensive outdoor range in spring 2019.

Mark Wolfe, Head of Buying commented, “I am delighted to have joined Building Supplies Online – it is at a really exciting point in its development and is ready to capitalise on its numerous growth opportunities, which I relish. The surge in online sales of building and construction materials suggests that our sector is on the brink of a major transformation, similar to that experienced by the consumer retail sector a decade ago. Building Supplies Online’s model of ecommerce distribution, together with the industry know-how and global best practice that Cairngorm Capital is able offer, makes us well positioned to capitalise on this. I am enjoying working with our suppliers, to prepare for the challenge.”

Craig Baldwin, founder and co-CEO added, “We are pleased to welcome Mark to Building Supplies Online. He has an impressive track record of buying and innovative procurement in the building supply sector, which are essential to support our growth plans. Although we have ambitious goals to fulfil, Building Supplies Online is well structured, with strong investor support, an exceptional offering, first-rate employees and a reputation for superior service. We are looking forward to the next phase of our development.”
