BSS Group sales break through the £1b barrier

Sales at The BSS Group have exceeded £1b for the first time, according to preliminary results for the year to March 31 2007.

Revenue increased 17.2% to £1,012.1m from £863.6m the previous year, while pre-tax profit rose 28.2% to £47.3m (£36.9m). Operating margin increased to 5.07% from 4.80%.

The group say that both the domestic and industrial divisions continue to outperform the market. The domestic division increased its share of the contractor/installer and second-tier merchant market and enjoyed like-for-like sales growth of 6.1%.

The industrial division benefited from increased involvement in major contract work, both private and public, with a 9.2% like-for-like sales gain.

The group opened 32 branches during the year, and now operate 319 in the UK and Ireland.

Commenting on BSS’ performance, group chief executive Gavin Slark said: “The group has had an excellent year with strong underlying growth in revenue, profit and cash flow.”

Trading for the first eight weeks of the new financial year is in line with expectations.
