Aggregate Industries bolsters South East supply with new Hitchin rail head

Hitchin new rail headAmid growing demand for construction materials in the South East, Aggregate Industries has opened a new aggregate rail head in Hitchin, Hertfordshire as part of ongoing plans to support supply into this region.

The new rail head, which branches off the London to Peterborough main railway line, has been transformed into a depot, allowing the company to import, store and sell its vital aggregate materials.

This new investment further complements Aggregate Industries unique network of depots in the South East, which are rail or water connected. This enables the company to reduce the road congestion and carbon footprint. Hitchin alone will save over 1.3 million road miles per year.

Situated opposite Hitchin railway station on Walsworth Road, the leading building materials supplier has restored the site to parallel their depots with modern and high tech equipment, as a result the site can now supply a wide range of aggregate.

Luke Thurston, Commercial Sales Manager for London and the South East at Aggregate Industries, comments: “We are very excited about our new Hitchin rail head and see a very bright and long future here. The new operation is part of Aggregate Industries’ wider plans to expand aggregate supply across the South East of England following rising demand for quarried material in London and the surrounding areas.

“Given its close, excellent location and good links to the London to Peterborough railway line, we’ve invested heavily in creating a fully functioning depot so that our busy customers can now access a range of different aggregate materials quickly and efficiently. These are exciting times for Aggregate Industries and we look forward to welcoming new and existing customers to this fantastic new facility.”
